It is beyond me what the media expected. For the House of Representatives to stand-down? For the "minority" in the "Tea Party" to stand-down? Or for those who believe fiscal responsibility is paramount now to stand-down?
It is a bit like Obamacare. We want to believe in this health care effort. But everything we see precludes us from believing what was then a majority of Democrats and very few Republicans. We believe in universal health care, or at least health care for all. Yet, we find ourselves trying to defend a new system that does little other than maintain the status quo, albeit with insurance companies even more entrenched in our economy.
So it is with the debt and government.
We know there is unbelievable waste in government. But it goes on. Pork and other deals as silly and absurd as any we can think of, wrapped in legislation. After all this, we are to believe that it is only Republicans who are acting wrongfully here? How does that work?
We know that minorities are getting the shaft, but that this is happening in ways that are not reachable by normal means. So we want something different, to make them more privileged or advantaged than others in the areas of education, health care, police protection, etc. Yet, we are faced with people, not color, who then get the short end of the stick when admissions occur.
And we see the end result in numerous entitlement programs run amok, with the Supreme Court to weigh in on just how prejudiced a system can be. Do we grant more people of color access, and deny others who are better qualified because of the color of their skin?
In the end, bias in government is either a necessary tool forever or has some endpoint. The culmination of this is in the minority, and always will be. We want to be given things, including our most wealthy who are given the most or just move. The world demands this. Our voters demand this.
There is no way out.
Is this why we have two branches of Congress and a president? Do you believe in checks and balances?
If not, get a Constitutional amendment. Otherwise, accept our form of government and work in that form to get done what you can.
And above all, think of our future sometime. Otherwise, we can only hope that we can throw the bums out or suffer the consequences.
