While he lived during his teenage years in a foreign country and has been a self-declared international president, President Obama is far from a hero anywhere these days. In fact, coupling his NSA with its shiny new facility in Utah, his decision to evacuate embassies around the world, his drone strikes and a seemingly endless series of hardline activities that have Republican Senators singing his praise, Obama has reverted to kind in almost every action he takes.
I told you so years ago. He is at base and always has been a Republican president on so many fronts it is hard to distinguish him from McCain and certainly Bush. In fact, McCain is likely to be more liberal.
In many if not the most important aspects of our lives, Obama has maintained the sound of silence more extensive than the most manipulative presidents of all time. George Bush, whose policies Obama continues to emulate and extend. Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson, whose lack of truth and integrity resulted in a tragedy of huge dimensions domestically in the one instance and overseas in the other.
None holds a candle to Obama.
He seems more likely to alienate the United States from foreign countries these days than any other president. In fact, while many who enjoy communications through websites like Newsvine and other places where views can be published, and despite contacts many of us have all over the world, we are forced to say that the chilling effect of NSA surveillance, which is after all "only" international communications, could well be preventing both the exchange of ideas and commerce from taking place.
The unprecedented closing of twenty or so embassies in countries in need of US strength, not weakness, makes it impossible to understand what is real and what the Administration has set up as "real."
Now we have Obama claiming he is going to work on some effort without specifics to "reform" NSA. The actions are not credible. They, not the Obama scandals, are phony.
This is Obamaction. The blend of movement that results in nothing but talk. With no direction or concrete recommendations. And the manipulation of government in ways that are from the student of Mao.
Why is he doing this?
Because his false image of the great magnificent president worthy of FDR would come crashing down with the mess he has made of the presidency if his legacy is examined outside of the political arena to see what he has done for anyone during his years in the presidency. And the dangers we face because of his decision to take the imperial president to its historic extreme.
It would be an interesting topic in 2016 to explore the need for shutting embassies, both as an economic necessity and as a philosophy of strength or weakness. It would be even more interesting to assess precisely who are al Qaeda and what they are up to these days.
But we know nothing. Even Congress has no idea unless you are talking about the high-level group of self-appointed controllers who make the decisions for our democracy. And the industry of spying and intrusion has become a motivating factor by now in everything we do.
All law enforcement connected. All data bases largely assessible by hundreds of thousands of officers, soldiers, federal officials, contractors, and who knows who else.
Why would Americans trust any spying apparatus these days. From the claims of "the most chatter since 9/11" to contentions that we are killing al Qaeda top brass almost weekly but that al Qaeda is defeated, nothing is what is said or what it seems to be. What chatter? We cannot be told. Just trust these people.
From a terrorist organization funded by a radical member of a rich Saudi family to some kind of international system that self-regenerates, what exactly is al Qaeda? In questioning this, am I subject to arrest for supporting al Qaeda? Can we even talk about al Qaeda?
We have no idea who these people are, the size of the "threat" that really exists, or any other fact because these are not public facts. They move in and out at whatever whim of whatever spys who at the time are either making the threat bigger or smaller based on "chatter." These secrets simply cannot be disclosed. We are free only because we know nothing.
We are safe because we must not know what is going on.
And we are our own enemies if we dare question anything.
Amid all this silence about our "mortal enemies" are many other forms of silence from Obama.
Silence of embassies in countries where their presence is our only voice. The evacuations that have taken place in the Middle East under the chief liar of Benghazi will have a debilitating impact on those who need our help the most. As noted in The New York Times.
“When you do evacuations, you signal that all the effort to build up trust in the Yemeni security establishment amounts to nothing,” said one Yemeni official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “And all the development projects by U.S.A.I.D. and its counterparts in Britain, Germany and elsewhere — everything stops.”
Silence of people painted as terroists, people who harbor or succor these "terrorists," and silence of those who might dare talk about them. Know nothing and you will be safe.
Silence of millions, targets of the most massive silencing system ever used in American history.
Silence caused by noisy, slow, unmanned planes bringing death to families, so-called "collateral damage" in Obama-speak whose redefinitions are masterful but debilitating. No evacuations of embassies. Just managed withdrawal or whatever other nonsense terms are de rigor.
Silence from the poor getting killed, with no voice anyway.
Silence from dead people identified as members of al Qaeda who have no trial, even if Americans.
And now silence perhaps beginning with the knowledge that drones will be or have been deployed in the US to surveile us all.
Silence of Russia, whose succoring of a man who dared try to end silence and who is wanted for the "worst act of espionage" the US has ever said. The man who is causing the US to review its systems to avoid the degree of intrusion involved, albeit in an almost certainly fake and ungenuine way that is itself done in silence because we cannot now what is being done to reform the program because to do so would be treason.
Treason is speech these days, at least in Obama's and our Democratic Congressional leaders' minds. Even if they cannot get a majority of their own party to support this silence. Because they are neither interested in freedom. Only in big government. Which should be all-knowing in order to keep us, nurture us and guide us. Eventually control us in many ways.
In the end, our leaders quake at freedom. They worry about the right of disclosure and knowledge. We, they say, are not safe with knowledge. We are safe only with and through silence.
Unless it is the citizenry on the look out for a traitor or terrorist. But even then, what do we know?
Silence of everyone working for the US in any capacity where information has to be treated as unspeakable and largely unknown. With the allegation of openness when there is no such thing as whistleblowing when our silence of surveillance is a necessary part of "keeping us safe." We have to be sneaky about what we do because only in this way can we catch the bad guys.
Silence in the press, caused by unprecedented prosecution, press controls, and outright lies.
Silence in all of government in connection with its intrusions into its citizens' lives.
Silence of the Executive Branch in its treatment of Congress.
Yes, all we can hear is the sound of silence. And it is getting louder all the time.
We start with a few less open acts by the phony president who falsely claimed to be committed to open government. The master of falsehoods and redefinitions who pledged our government would be the most open in history and has made it the most silent.
And his supporters still make the false claims. Like giving us a picture of Trayvon Martin when he was twelve rather than 17.
Silence through claims of racism. And the risk of being called a racist.
These acts of silence snowball into Obama's "Executive Privilege."Silence over guns given to drug lords, silence into the IRS "phony" scandal, silence and distortions about Benghazi.
Stay silent and you may not get audited, as I just did, by the IRS.
Silence is golden. It means money and lots of it. It means the less we know about what goes on, the fewer can disclose anything at all. And the greater the cost of silence, for which we pay billions.
Billions for silence.
Silence means a ripe environment for terror against our own citizens. Where does terror start on a national scale? Bombings or surveillance? What was the true sign of dictators during the last century? Control of information. Total control.
You may be liberal and love the state of our press today. You listen only to the news you want. And you ignore or insult so-called conservatives to the point that you know nothing else. Or you may be a conservative who does the same thing.
Silence of the other side is and has been Obama's objective since he started his run for president in 1996 or 2006 or 2007. And he was as capable of the big lie as anyone in history.
If you believe that Obama had nothing to do with the claims that the Clintons are racists, think again. If you believe all of any unauthorized biography are lies, as constantly written by Obama supporters as fact, read my article on this subject.
Silence through control is what we used to think of as totalitarian. So was silence over what was happening in government, letting you know lies were fact. Supporting lies even when the truth is known.
No more. Not with a man who is more interested in himself, more egocentric and more narcissistic than any president in history.
Obama worshipers believe in parting seas. Those of us who believe in freedom see this as just the opening salvo in a continuing, all-encompassing belief in government and its control over everyone.
We have had decades of the marriage of the poor and many others to our government. I believe in this marriage in many ways. But I am getting really worried.
When government becomes the people, we need to find our voices again. We need seriously to consider Rand Paul. And we need to fervently question our government, no matter the risks of audit (I was audited recently for something incredibly dumb) and no matter what else Obama and our government can throw at us.
As Helen Thomas, the icon of the press who just passed away, noted
"when she slammed Obama’s then-press secretary Robert Gibbs for the administration’s close management of the press and for planting prepackaged questions for the president. “The point is the control from here. We have never had that in the White House. And we have had some control but not this control. I mean I’m amazed, I’m amazed at you people who call for openness and transparency and have controlled…” Thomas said.
Following this testy exchange with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, freerepublic.com reports:
veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press.
“Nixon didn’t try to do that,” Thomas said. “They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try.
“What the hell do they think we are, puppets?” Thomas said. “They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.”
Silence is the ultimate control. And silence is what we have, with a very narrow majority in the House of Representatives supporting silence.
Do you like the sounds of silence? Do you support Obama's control of the press, his use of Leno as his way to instruct the world, his attorney general asserting Executive Privilege, his support of warrantless searches, worldwide surveillance and drone killings of Americans and others?
Maybe, in fear, you should. But just who and what are you afraid of?
Americans are supposed to be a shining city on a hill. Instead, we are largely wallowing in our waste. We cannot get universal healthcare, but we can make sure no one talks about who we kill and why.
The kill lists are just another well-kept secret as to which silence must be maintained.
The era of silence. The loss of freedom.
Absolute power and control. Absolute corruption of who we are and what we used to be.
